Siri may become Google Killer

Analysts are now predicting Siri will be 3rd Apple big-hits. iPhone and iPad kicked analysts’ a**, and some of them actually lost their job after publishing “end of Apple empire” 2 times. Now they are having some smart moves, saying “iPhone 4S may sucks, but Siri doesn’t.”

Truly Siri is interesting service. Most of companies still owns customer service w/ machines, and they barely understand words. Many developers and manufacturers came up with voice recognition UI, but failed to impress buyers. Now Apple came up with one, saying “this works.” And analysts are saying, “good stuff.” Really?

An idea that Siri is distinguishably different from other services aren’t making much of sense. They do work, and that’s somewhat interesting. But will it give another push for Apple, like iPod, iPhone, and iPad did? That’s totally different story. -R

Forbes | Why Siri Is a Google Killer

6. When Siri opens up its API to 3rd party developers, this thing’s growth and adoption will go ballistic. At the moment, Siri is in “beta” and no 3rd party app exists. But what happens when you allow developers to write Siri-enabled scripts that tie into their websites – like Yelp, OpenTable, and others? Siri will become even smarter. For users, it will become even more valuable because better and better data results will come back to it. And Apple — as happened in the iPhone and then iPad spaces — will have a huge lead in 3rd party apps tied into this powerful interface.

Twitter isn’t ruining English

For years, actually for centuries, many conservaties, whom are known as old-timers, claimed new culture and technology is ruining the language. Not only language they claim, but also body and mind of one. Such as graphic novels, video games, even facebook and twitter -these two have been added to list recently-. Unfortunately, many studies have done suggesting those kind of new experiences rather enhance and nourish overall quality of experience, and furthermore education of one. And here goes 2nd shot: does Twitter ruin English? Turns out “NO”. -R

Forbes | No, Twitter Isn’t Ruining the English Language

The result? The mean word length in Hamlet (in modern spelling) was 3.99 characters; in P. G. Wodehouse’s Jeeves stories, the mean word length was 4.05 characters; in the DP‘s tweets, the mean word length was 4.80 characters.

Business world with still well alive sexism

Forbes | Why Most Women Will Never Become CEO

So who’s left? The women with the thickest skin. Which is not always the best qualification to be an effective CEO. This is why we don’t see as many women CEOs as we do men. Still. Yes, women have advanced a great deal in the business world. Unfortunately, the business world hasn’t advanced along with them. I’m not sure this will change anytime soon.

Economic growth speeds up, however Americans cannot feel

Economy is always heading better, stronger way. Personally I don’t even remember who said it, and who dares to comment on it. America wants optimistic futures and ideas, no one dare to even examine or test such ‘ideas.’ Unlike some of Asian or European economists, American economists keep talking about bright future of Wall Street is coming. Oh, bright torch of Wall Street is already there.

Economy is in bad shape, but will US survive such recessions? Some even argue the recession of 2008 in US happened in strange time period; europe is not powerful enough to replace US, Asia has not been developed fully. What about China? Well, they are the continents, but they don’t have such potential to replace dollar. Yen? Not even close; japan is in recession for about 20 years. What about Korea? India? Turkey? How about EU?

Nonetheless, United States is the only country for an option. Will it blend? Oops, not Will it survive? That’s the question. -R

New York Times | Economic Growth in U.S., Though Still Modest, Speeds Up

“It ain’t brilliant, but at least it’s heading in the right direction,” said Ian Shepherdson, the chief United States economist for High Frequency Economics, a data analysis firm. “I want to see 4 percent, but given that people were talking about a new recession, I’ll take 2.5 or 3, thanks very much.”

US Lawmakers do NOT fear downgrade

When first downgrade had been done on US debt, lawmakers responded with publicly denouncing credibility of credit agencies. While some non-Americans argued federal government is failing greatly, -along with the economy- now lawmakers responds with fairly insecure argument. According to congressman/woman, credit agencies aren’t doing any work. Or United States is the cleanest shirt out of dirty shirts. -R

Reuters | Exclusive: Lawmakers unfazed by downgrade risk

Analysts warn, however, that signs of complacency on Capitol Hill threaten efforts to cure America’s long-term fiscal health.

“Future starts with you” : Nest, new thermostat

What shall I say? Futuristic ideas have been developed all around the places, suggesting one day thermostat will be the far most scientifically-developed stuff in the house-hold systems. Imagine, a machine, a program that will automatically adjust the environment as you wish, as you like. After all, only thing it truly does is that it will record you flavors, program weekly schedule, and process as it says. -there’s no myth, fairies inside thermostat- But still, “welcome the future starter.” “Future starts with you.” -R

Why isn’t G+ reckoning yet?

G+ has an interesting system, but people tend not to move by new fancy systems. They tend to be moved by popularity and usability. Facebook and Twitter were great innovation, but in terms of technology, they weren’t. Both of Social Network suggested new trends of web design and interface, but those suggestions were done in the margins of our technology; they did not create new technologies. Engineers argued SNS is lame, and therefore fail, but their prediction was apparently utter failure. -and if they did not fail, they wouldn’t be known as engineers-

Personally I have my personal taste in Twitter: it lets you to publish instantly valuable information. The messages are short enough, and usually if 150 characters aren’t enough, it will link to another website, letting me to surf through other websites. What I always hate about journalism, or rather newspaper is that they would own every single sources, cover them in hide, and ask us to pay them to reveal what they have found. But Twitter is different. If one discovers something, then everyone gets to know who made this discovery; they aren’t interested who spread it.

But how about G+? Do people see merit in moving to G+? -R

Forbes | Why Are So Many Tech Titans Ignoring Google Plus?

Of course, there’s always the possibility that the whales of the tech ocean are using the heck out of Google Plus but doing all their sharing privately. Crowley, for one, says that’s not the story, though. He’s simply not much of a G+ user. “Just haven’t found a use case yet,” he says, via email. “To be fair, I’m pretty quiet on [Facebook] too. I push stuff to FB via Twitter + [Foursquare], but I don’t really post or consume much.”

Religion claims its place in Wallstreet

Interesting how religion doesn’t realize what protestors are arguing in Wallstreet. -R

WSJ | Religion claims its place in Occupy Wall Street

“We’re a country full of religious people,” he said. “Faith communities do need to be present and need to be welcomed in order for this to be an all-encompassing movement that embraces all sectors of society.”

Siri is now ported to iPad; such a failure

Recent update on Siri: Siri does not work on your device, rather Apple server will render your voice and gives you the following result with “not speaking.” Speaking of AI voice interface, it’s pointless to even argue Apple inc. has a potential to port voice recognition and conversation responses on 1.5 Ghz dual core. It is utterly impossible, don’t even ask. My argument was, unfortunately, that Apple somehow managed to port portion of Siri software inside iPhone 4S. But apparently Apple didn’t even try, or did a try, with quite of utter failure.

Group of developers -or hackers- ported Siri inside the iPad, with a nice piece of triumph. However Apple server was silent, never responded to it. Such a failure, I must argue, what is the whole point of allowing only the new models to acquire such beautiful piece of work? -R

Engadget | Siri ported to iPad, still getting silent treatment from Apple servers

This version, running on a first-generation jailbroken Apple tablet, suffers from a similar problem as past non-iPhone 4S ports: it’s still not talking to Apple’s data servers.

Samsung still makes Apple A6 chips

Slash Gear | Samsung keeps Apple A6 contract despite TSMC bid says exec

“Apple has been in talks with Samsung over shipment of its A6 quad-core mobile processor (AP) chips to be used in the next iPhone. It appears that Apple clearly has concluded that Samsung remains a critical business partner” the unnamed Samsung executive told the Korean newspaper.

This is why I can’t believe random articles. They quote from Korean newspapers, which quotes from any random stupid conspiracy-like bloggers! It’s NOT even close to facts! I know Samsung will still be vital business partner to Apple, I know Samsung will make A6 chips for Apple. But this is different, you cannot conclude something from anonymous samsung executive. Who is that person? Why that person didn’t want their name to be on paper? He’s just making analysis of his business, and he is the one who’s in control! WHY IS HE ANONYMOUS? Doesn’t make any sense. -R

Samsung wants iPhone 4S banned in Japan, Austrailia

PC Magazine | Samsung Wants Apple iPhone 4S Banned in Japan, Australia

Patent blogger Florian Mueller said this morning that Samsung’s claims in Australia are “doomed to fail” because they relate to technologies that are essential to the 3G telecom standards.

I’m trying my best to get myself updated on this. As far as I know, Apple sued Samsung for multiple UI patents, and banned Galaxies in Germany. Samsung is now banning iPhone 4S in Japan and Australia for infringing Samsung UI patents and WCDMA patents. And honestly I have no interest in Samsung’s 3G network patents. They just can’t control what phone manufacturers will use in their factories. -They are allowed to collect some moneys though- It’s not surprising Korean tech giants own the multiple mobile patents. However while Samsung’s UI and UX have been graded worst out of all the others, it is ridiculously amazing they actually have some UI patents, especially in flight mode, which was an essential part of iPhone since 1st generation. -R

Siri will NOT work on iPhone 4

Many believed Apple did little trick to iOS5, so that it won’t run Siri on iPhone 4. So devs have done some work to port Siri to iPhone 4, and found out Apple was actually pretty honest company.

GottaBeMobile | Siri Ported to iPhone 4 from the 4S, Why Didn’t Apple?

A developer ported the Siri voice command system from the new iPhone 4S (read our review) over to the previous generation iPhone 4. You can see from the video that the system runs, but not smoothly, and we don’t get an actual voice demonstration.

Will consumers move to iPhone after Blackberry blackout?

Reuters | Analysis: BlackBerry outage could accelerate shift to iPhone

John Stuart has been chained to his BlackBerry for years, first as a systems manager for Wall Street bank Morgan Stanley and then as chief information officer for Beverly Hills Wealth Management.

This is what I call fiction. Businesses do not make that quick changes, it costs more than just couple grands, it costs millions of dollars for them to adopt new model, design database, equip proper servers and services. It literally money and time consuming work, and even if there is, it will take months to move iPhone. Besides, now that the world is divided into Android and iOS, who is actually using Blackberry, other than business and some politicians? I must say, it’s terrible in many ways. -R

Fixing RIM, in other words

When Apple came up with iPhone, RIM and Nokia had this wonderful defense. They still own the cellphone market! Awesome, investors took it literally, and later sucked in making moneys.

Why? Because Smartphone market has nothing to do with numbers of device, actually most of customers who decided smartphone spends larger in phones. For instance, they buy apps. Of course, many of Android fanboys would go ahead and say ‘bullshit, smartphone app market isn’t that important.’ Here I am, saying ‘bullshit’ to them.

Forbes | Is It Too Late To Fix Research In Motion?

In RIM’s glory days, it owned the market for mobile corporate communication. All too quickly, the ‘BlackBerry prayer’ became a routine part of meetings, travel and even classrooms. Freeing executives up from their desks so that they could commune with their ‘crackberries’ created enormous market presence with a product so beloved that corporate-types panicked when there was a chance their device might be lost or that they couldn’t connect.

RIM will have to come up with valid ideas. Not just fixing Blackberrys in general, something they can reckon smartphone markets. -R

Rigid review of iPhone 4S from The Loop

You may ask, ‘aren’t you making same money? why aren’t you posting any review of iPhone 4s? this is not yours, I demand to see your damn review!’ Right, your argument is very profound, and I wish I could write review of iPhone 4S. I was once given to write some reviews of Apple products, by Apple, -I’m still surprised they actually noticed who I am- but not anymore. My iPhone 4 works pretty fine, and believe me, I would upgrade my phone sonner than you can possibly imagine.

The Loop | Review: iPhone 4S

I’ve been using the iPhone 4S for a week now — ever since Apple introduced the device at a special event in Cupertino on October 4. The iPhone 4S may look a lot like its predecessor, but a significant speed boost and reworked antenna technology put this model far ahead of the competition, and even ahead of the iPhone 4.

With its A5 chip, the iPhone 4S is noticeably faster in everything you do. From launching apps to switching between apps using multitasking, you can’t help but notice the speed increase.

The reason why I waited a bit to post a review is simple. They are not rigid enough; they’ve never used it, they just read some Apple explanation of iPhone 4S, expecting it to work just fine, and write random words. Which I totally despise of. Making perfect stuff, especially when it comes to electronics, is much harder than ever. And I hoped to see some errors, bugs, and some problems they wish to solve from it. If iPhone rocks so good, why would people ever buy Androids? Just because they are cheaper? Nope, that’s not the way it works. Never.

Anyway he wrote interesting review, again rigid review. With sincere Apple fanboy like accents in it. But well, if you are a reader, you would notice quite easily how he writes in a form of business-friendly way. -R
