안녕하세요. (위의 영문 설명은 무시하셔도 됩니다…)

마지막으로 Videora를 이용한 iDevice 인코딩 강좌를 올린 지 꽤나 지났습니다만, 의외로 많은 분들이 다시 강좌를 올려달라고 요청하셨습니다. (걱정마세요, 저도 요청받고 놀랐어요) 아무래도 iOS 계열 기기들은 하나같이 용량이 작지만 WIFI를 이용해 동영상을 시청한다던가, 인코딩 과정 없이도 동영상이 시청가능한 앱이 나오는 ‘새로운 트렌드에 많이 밀린다….’ 라고 판단해 지금까지 강 의를 다시 복구하지도, 만들지도 않았는데 굉장히 놀랐습니다. (특히 제 강좌를 보고 아이팟을 살 결심을 하셨다는 분까지 있었는데, 굉장히 쇼크였어요….)

제가 마지막으로 Videora 강의를 올린 이후로 실 SW인 Videora 에는 크나큰 변화가 있었습니다. 첫번째는 아무래도 SW가 전체적으로 기능이 단단해졌다는 점이겠고,  두번째는 반쯤은 개발이 잠정적 중단된 것(…)이 아닐까 생각해봅니다. 마지막 업데이트가 2010년이였던만큼, 2011년이 거의다 끝나가는 현재로써는 참으로 안타까운 일이 아닐 수 없습니다. 그렇다고 해서 2010년에 마지막으로 배포된 버젼에 특별히 버그가 있거나 하지 않았기 때문에 사용자체에는 지장이 없으리라 생각됩니다.

1. 실행시키시면 일단 “Select Your iPod Model” 이라는 문구와 함께 아이팟 기종들이 나올 겁니다. 이 강좌는 iPod Classic (6th gen)인 만큼, iPod Classic을 선택해주세요.

2.  상단에 있는 탭에서 “Settings” 를 선택합니다.

3. 현재 선택되어 있는 profile 명이 뜨는데, 이론 파트를 읽어보셨다면 아시겠지만, 이건 굉장히 저화질로 인코딩하는 설정입니다. 따라서 아예 초고화질용으로 profile을 새로 만들도록 하겠습니다. 우측 상단에 있는 “New Profile” 을 선택해주세요.

4. 사진에 나온대로 설정 맞춰주시면 됩니다. 여기서 약간의 선택지가 갈리는데, Encoder 부분을 보시면 제가 iPod 2-Pass 로 설정해둔게 보이실 겁니다. 2-Pass를 이용하게 되면 화질은 그대로이지만, 용량이 적어지는 장점이 있습니다. 물론 말 그대로 2 Pass라, 인코딩을 2번하게 됩니다. 필요에 따라 1-Pass와 2-Pass를 번갈아 가면서 사용하시면 되겠습니다. 설정이 끝나면 상단 탭에서 “Video” 를 클릭해주세요.

5. 마찬가지로 사진에 맞춰 설정하시면 됩니다. (사진이 작아 안보이시면 사진을 클릭하시면 됩니다) 설정이 끝나셨으면 상단 탭에서 “Audio”를 클릭해주세요.

6. 사진에 맞춰 설정이 끝나셨다면 하단에 있는 “Save” 를 클릭해 새로만든 profile을 저장합니다.

7. 이제 새로만든 profile에 따라 인코더(videora)가 작동하도록 설정을 바꿔야 합니다. Device는 당연히 iPod Classic으로 설정이 되어있어야 할 것이고, Profile이 새로 만든 초고화질 설정이 맞나 확인해주세요. (4번 항목에서 적어넣은 이름입니다) 그리고  그 바로 밑에 “Video Conversion Defaults” 라는 항목이 있습니다. 여기서도 profile 항목을 초고화질 설정으로 바꿔주시고, 원하신다면 output directory (결과물이 어디로 나오는지) 도 바꾸셔도 좋습니다.  끝나셨으면 하단에 있는 “Save Changes” 를 클릭하시고, 상단에 있는 “Convert” 탭을 선택해주세요.

8. 모드가 2가지 뜹니다만, 이번 경우에는 초고화질로 인코딩해야 하기 때문에 수동모드에 해당하는 “Power Mode” 를 선택하도록 하겠습니다.

9. 선택 후 이런 화면이 뜨실 겁니다. 하단에 보시면, 동영상 파일을 선택할 수 있는 버튼이 있습니다. “Select File” 로 동영상 파일들을 선택해주세요. (한개 이상 선택하셔도 됩니다) 그리고 Output Directory (결과물이 어디로 나오는지)가 맞는지 확인하셔야 됩니다. 사진 상에서는 제 실수로 저화질 설정을 선택했습니다만, 4번 항목에서 만들었던 profile을 선택하셔야 됩니다. Device 밑에 있는 Profile 항목을 잊지 말고 수정해주세요. “Start Converting” 을 클릭하시면 인코딩이 시작됩니다.

10. 상단 탭에서 “Progress” 를 클릭하면 인코딩 진행상황을 확인할 수 있습니다. (사진 상에서는 제가 인코딩을 하고 있지 않기 진행상황이 나오고 있지 않습니다)

11. 결과물은 “Output Directory” 에서 선택하신 위치에서 나올 겁니다.

I just got an email about advertisements and website, saying new-formatted tea party wouldn’t fit in their screen. Sorry, but only solution ever available for you, and rest of people who might have same problem, is essentially upgrading one’s computer. Please, please keep your computer up-to-date. We cannot keep support 1024×768 screens forever.

What we tried to do, with last update which we wrote couple of hours ago, was full-integration of HD website. In other words, website would fill the HD screen, so that reader with better resolution wouldn’t have any problems with reading our posts. Of course, we looked for solution to a non-HD monitors, but again, ultimate answer to this is asking reader to keep their gadgets updated.

Even most basic laptops come out with 800p HD resolution. It doesn’t look so much different from length, but HD has 16:9 ratio, which makes larger width of monitor: 1200×800. And that number of 176 pixels make huge difference in reading experience.

We rolled back the update, and now you should be able to see the website under 1024×768 screen. -though one will have to scroll frequently- Again, we will not continue on supporting non-HD screen, and though one will have to screen even left to right, there should not be any problem with reading itself. If website doesn’t show up on your browser, then let us know.

At some point, figuring out how to make money in blog, by doing some googling, you suppose to find brilliant idea. ‘Content is the king’. Because there are Search Engines, waiting for your tremendous amount of informations. That’s how evaluate your credit in online. Resource and informations. Sounds like R&D, -research & development-, but in real life, only thing that truly drags people into your blog is only one thing. Information.

It doesn’t matter how your blog looks so ugly. Besides, it is almost impossible to make beauty in the online , -while it is completely not worth it- since it will cost more then whatever you have in your mind, and there are people who think differently. Personally, I always value readability of blog and website, but that’s only for me, as well. Sometimes, there are people who think great readability in a way of boring, or kind of. Also by saying ‘readability’, usually end up being trapped in simple monochrome designs. So, in any time, I hope you start caring about content, not the appearance, like old fairy tales said.

Search engine is great partner in 2 ways. First of all, it makes easier for people to come in to your website. Second, it makes them easier to look for information that they are looking for. Action of searching in the blog means confidence, that this ‘info’ must be in your blog, or worth enough to try. So by making good posts, keeping them with the good search bar in the blog is real important matter for any of us.

And Google, 1st savior of blogger, made a nice, good-looking, Adsense with customized search bar.

But… does that really help?

In my experience, although clearly most Adsense gurus always advise to use one, I rather not recommend them, but despise it. I understand the importance of ‘SEO: Search Engine Optimized’, so that search engine would look through the contents of the blog, and lead people inside. But letting search engine getting inside the blog is something different.

Advertisement is basically a blockade from blogger -or reader- and reality. In online, it seems most of the things are very free, and actually everything work fine without any extra payments. That’s where every pirating started. So for blogger, who at least needs some profits out of blog to maintain it (reality), put ads in it. And readers, of course, are going to think ‘oh, my. is this blog? or just full of ads?’ Since there are line, once we over it, your blog might be regarded as ‘spam’, if there are too much advertisement. Besides, most of advertisements designed to be very deceiving, which is really irritating for readers.

As I mentioned already, search bar in blog is quite essential to keep contents in order. But putting ads into search bar is like putting cancer cell into your eye ball; easily irritate visitors also brings down the website itself.

It is highly up to your choice. There is no such thing as perfect answer when it comes to statistical method. Besides, it is ture that search based advertisements brings much more then ever in comparison of the others.

Like I said last time, on “Design the interior”, unless you know the limitation of the website, -there is no such thing as perfect social blog or sort, there are always limitation which requires you to pay attention to it- you will never know how much it will take to do so. If you still remember some troubles that I mentioned, you might want to start thinking “what did I just skipped”.

Blueprint of website=Not just interior design

Housekeeping is quite easy. Just for example, if you move to new place, and needs some furniture, just call some expert or you can find yourself comfortable with your choices you made in store. Sounds good. But unfortunately, in internet, each furniture basically requires you to set up. Basically means, you need to put them in shape and put them in order. Sounds quite stupid, if I put it in to examples of furniture -Make sure you don’t put sofa next to TV, because TV somehow not going to work next to your lousy sofa.

Because we’ve seen, been so much familiar with social network, web 2.0, it seems rational to say “why this blog doesn’t have commenting system?” or sort. Sounds familiar to “why this family doesn’t have TV?”, but to blogger, it more sounds like “are you idiot? everyone can put TV next to Sofa.” Well, yes. True. In some apartment, power cord is not behind sofa, but next to, so that you can put your TV there.

Let’s get serious a little.

Some service provider doesn’t like PHP for various reasons. First of all, maintaing the 2.0 systems -commenting, trackback or sort of communicating system in website- requires some process in the server. It sounds easy, but as your blog get bigger or even at some point if your blog got some spot light, it brings much more trouble. It’s more technical, so let’s discuss it later about deatil.

Problem is, there are formats(apartments) that does the job you want, or not. So unless you want to pay extras, like buying full-optioned vehicle, you might want to think which format, or platform would work for you.

Then how specific it should be?

Depends on how serious you are. No joke. For some bloggers, interior design or appearance never matters. Only things they care is actually “writing”, not all sort of problem making. For others, appearance matters. Unfortunately, those “appearance” and themes for your blog also requires some specified formats. Even you make exactly same looking blog, depends on your format, you need to write totally different codes.

In my opinion, it seems using WordPress would make the way here. Since there are some experts who would help you out while you’re using it, and besides, you don’t want to write basic codes from beginning. -And I am not going to discuss about writing codes from beginning, unless there are private request before hand-

I’ve used all sorts of platform, so just ask. That’s the only way here. Look for all sort of platform, and read all the “fine-details”, and see what it does and doesn’t. -We will discuss about pros and cons of platform later on- And making blueprint helps a lot at that point.

Before everything starts to take in place, we should’ve been noticed the fundamental law of “making money with blog”. Whatever you do in the blog, whether it is something professional or not, it will be in your blog. Which means, that whatever you write, it suppose to fit in your blog. Let’s say you decorated your blog with collection of baseball pictures, trophies, mean while you wrote about basketball game in a row. I can verify this, quite easily, that any reader -about half of them- going to stop visiting because they are just going to think, “well, I guess this blog wasn’t the place that I am looking for”

Something we tend to miss a lot in business can hurt you

Last time I was reading interview in the online magazine, interview of the engineer who’s been in business for a while, actually mentioned that the biggest mistake he had done in his business carrier was that what matters is, the “price”, not how good you are. Do not panic, I know you don’t even get a hunch about what I just said. Most engineer, actually any technicians start their own business, believing they got the “skills” and “technologies” to success in the market. But in reality, when customer just faced the price isn’t just beneficial, that is overly cheap, they will never going to buy yours. Let’s face it. Who’s going to buy TV from random company, while Samsung LCD TV is on best buy for 50% off?

It applies exactly to your blog. I always recommend to have a “proper”, or rather “primary” job over the blog, but there are always people who believe that they got the infos which will have tremendous visitors in their blog. It’s true, most of the info they say is crucial, something that most people would love to read. But in online, you can get the same information after 1 hour of waiting, in another website. It’s that much easy.

Design the appearance prior to the writing blog out is something that makes difference. If you have your own image of the blog, then it’s very good to go. But in reality, we tend to say “Well, I got the good sources, I probably can make money within 6 months.”

Reality isn’t so easy. Design sometimes require major change in your website.

Some of you probably have read my “about” page. And you probably had thought, “Wait a second, what is 2.2 after all?” -There is a line that I said, “it’s Ruined World 2.2″- I had gone the same problem that I am writing here. That’s why I had to put my own scarlet letter on my website, 2.2.

Technology doesn’t provide so much back up when you start make your own blog. There are dozens of solutions that will provide you the same service. I started my blog around in 2004, it’s been 6 years. In 6 years, there were major changes that took place in online. First, Google became the major lead in Search Engine Portals. Second, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. start to get higher attention than ever. Third, personalized advertisement solution became common. It’s always a lot things to say.

Truth is, at some point you’ll want to add, edit, delete, some of the stuffs in your blog. That’s the same reason that I came to the point, where I start to put “2.2″. In 0.9, there were comments systems sponsored by Naver, S. Korean company. In 1.0, when I was writing in iDisk, Apple Inc.’s, they supported commenting system within the boundaries of iWeb, which is Apple style website building program. 1.5, I was still using iDisk, although I didn’t use iWeb. That’s the point where I couldn’t support comments in my blog. It’s stupid, after all, blog without commenting. My blog was devastating for 2~3 years. I found my solutions to back it up, but truly, it lasted for only few months.

Because we are so used to the amazing technologies, comments, trackback, twitter, we never know how much effort it takes to build those. I even heard jokes about “If I made twitter 1 year prior to original….”. Oh, please. If you can build that, you cannot be with me, gossiping about head programmers in twitter. You suppose to be in MIT, teaching computer science. That’s how much it takes.

Design requires backup: technology.

You can start making blue print how your blog is going to look like quite easily. But in reality, if you look some codes in WordPress.org, you should know that it usually requires more than what you think.

Here’s the new technological term for blog. “PHP”

The websites we see, is written in HTML form, hyperlinks. I’ll explain the details later on, but HTML has big limitation in it. You cannot send the infos to the server, -to blog- that is out of boundaries. Let’s say I just the website called “a”. You wanted to read article “building website” in it, and clicked it. And that’s it. Nothing more, but there’s only thing you can do. “Click.” No comment, no trackback, nothing you can do. Only thing you can do in HTMl, is that what the blogger permitted, or built. PHP is one the solution that one genius found. Basically it does exactly the same way HTML does, but it allows server to communicate: leaving comments, counting visitors, etc. New technology.

Blue print, you might want to make here, gives you through budget. If you made it beautifully, fine, let’s call some experts who can do that. If you don’t like to put comments in there, well then we can make it quite more easily and cheaply. That’s how it works.

Online is not a “mansion with unlimited budget”, but rather “deep hole”

People tend to believe, online makes everything easier, cheaper, and smoother. But in reality, it takes more than what you ever imagine. As more you make it better, it requires more time, more money. There is way you can use it “free” as you have done in several times with downloading movies and musics. Let’s say you spent 10 grands in the website. Ok, it’s going to look really fine. But in reality, there are people who makes better than 10 grands website in an hour. Only reason that it cost you 10 grands to make same website as the other did in an hour, is because you had money but not the skills. He won’t give you a hand, unless you’ll pay them.

There are several solutions.

1. Call expert to build your website. -Without your design-
2. Call expert to build your website, as you designed.
3. Use programs to build your website.
4. Use open source projects to build your website.
5. Just build it yourself.

#1 is going to cost a lot more than #5. Solution #4, usually cost about $30~$50 in a year. #3, cost about $100~. #2 and #1 are basically going to make you actually write a check. If you have your design, then we will know how much you can save, what program you want to use. That’s the where blue prints are needed.

Some of you must have recognized that most of the things that I have written before hand, were actually talking about the terms, ideas, and theories about how things I am going to say, and explain while I am running this.

Thing is, we never really started building your own blog, or website.

What’s going to happen after this?

Well, quite simpler than you expect. Build the website itself doesn’t take much time. Rather, takes money. If you have about $40, you can make cheap blog in 2 mins, although its completely empty. But for sure, you will never have any problem with itself, IF YOU ONLY WANT THAT. I saw lots of people, arguing how noble it is not to ask any financial support from his/her reader with rich information in the blog. Yeah, quite noble, except the fact you probably had suffered bills from the service company. Let’s be honest. If you have your own blog wonderful, you deserve to get paid.

And the focus will be on how are you going to run your website profitable, efficiently, while setting up easily.

Thus, the theoretical terms and ideas are important to discuss about things coming for later.

Can I read the “Before Start” Later?

Personally, that’s the most frequent question that I had. Whether or not Before Start needs to be read before hand to understand about building website. My answer is yes, but I want to recommend you to read it first, so that you wouldn’t have any trouble with reading the posts. And also, I do notice that the “Before Start” need to clear out and summarized, so I’ll work on it as well.

As I already stated above, Before Start is not actually “starting” building. It’s rather explaining rules and warning that you could have during the building and maintaining.

Then What is the Main Terms(=Words) I need to know from it?

There are three important that I will use frequently.

1. Traffic
2. Information
3. Design(=interior)

By now, you probably know what they suppose to mean. Traffic=visitors, information=posts, design=design.

Detailed information available in the Before Start corner. Also, I would use some other technical terms as well, though I will explain what they means throughly in the post itself, I hope you know how computer works, no need for full understanding but at least its nature of it.

Ok, don’t get overwhelmed by the terms “Revenue Structure” that I used here. It is nothing but saying -in manly words- how am I going to make money out of my website. Although I explained throughly about what’s going to happen after you built your own website, or blog, always detailed information needed for this one. This is something we suppose to call it “making money from nowhere”, though if you understand it fully, probably going to stop calling it digging for penny on the ground.

Alternative for asking “Money” from your reader would be….

Here’s something big. Easiest way, rather straight way forward of this issue is, that asking money directly to your reader. And we’ve seen the problems that have grown for decades dealing with computers: movies, music that converted in digital format, applications and datas that were already in digital format in first place. In more proper way of speaking, contents are now threatening the original author of its contents by asking for newer features, informations, capabilities, etc. while in reality no one is paying for them.

There are so-called copyrights to protect these to happen. But let’s be honest in here. People use li****re than ever to download musics. Besides, who even would want to pay those monies for 3 minutes of joy? Well, anyone can make argument about the greatness, importance of cultural contents that s/he illegally got access, although the nature of capitalism stops them speaking. As good old man said, if you don’t need pay for it, then just take it.

Here is some alternative Google created, actually naturally happened, of the way of making money. Any writers or artist whatever you want to be called need money. And readers who surf in the web never want to pay the money quite easily whether it is something critical or not. So simple way of doing this is, let the readers to “pay” your work through realistic way. Simply, lead them to the another stores or online shops where they sell stuffs and ask the shop keepers to share the money they make. -this is how advertisement first been made- Let’s skip the discussion along with “Does ads help our culture?” or sort at this moment. It is something a fact, that we have a choice to use ads as our revenue structure, source of money.

Why did you bring up Google?

Unless you live in S. Korea, there is no good options offered other than Google Adsense. Personally, I think Adsense gives you quite a nice deal. I never seen more profitable ads other than from Google. Of course, you can look up for other companies where gives you more profits and better contract. -Adsense, as critiques always argue, make you slaves of Google with simple “accept” button at the bottom of contract-

But be aware. Google is not the cool guy who will pay you for no reason. They only pay you at specific condition, such as someone clicked the ads. Also since they don’t want to blow up whole business structure, they stop you from sharing your informations and statistics about the ads.

Either A. Put ads in your blog, B. Sell something to make money

Don’t tell me that I am being too skeptical about the issue. This is very simple. A. Put ads or B. Sell stuffs. And most of the bloggers would not want to do a lot of jobs with sending boxes to somewhere another.

Ads are also have cons within its natural aspects. We all should be aware that we hate ads so that we simply ignore them, close them, throw them out. This is something that I will discuss seriously later, but you should make ads very friendly to your blogs and posts. Thing doesn’t work the way, making ads standing out. It’s more like rationalizing and justifying yourself that ads can help readers to get information. And you’re right about that. Make ads to provide information, not only just “money source” in your website. -you won’t even see the pay check for decades if you do that-

• I have experience of using custom firmware, or jail-breaking, etc. to my gadgets.
• I love new wallpaper I downloaded.

Danger of Plagiarism in Internet

After the computer became common in any ordinary house hold, there is one more thing that became quite “normal” for everyone. Pirating information, application and media. Since I am not the one who is morality expert, I don’t have any arguments pro or cons about this issue for this moment. But in reality, whether you agree or not, legally you’re stealing other guys’ stuff and make profit out of it; by itself means, you’re going to pay whole a lot of money for that.

Of course, posting information dealing with these pricy stuffs always get high attention, traffic, so that you’re likely going to make profit easier than ever with it. It’s a fact, people like free stuff. -That’s how capitalism works- But breaking law is something different. Basically your website will be blocked by federal government, you’ll be asked to pay for copyright, all of readers who will be accused of pirating will decry that you’re who supposedly fully in responsibility. I would not recommend you to take that risk.

I have personal experience of getting sued because of that **** copyright stuffs. And after I heard full explanation about what have I done wrong, to be honest, I understand the terms they meant for ‘accused for violating copyright’.

You might have seen those commercials, campaigns, asking to pay rightful payment to the right owner of that products. I am not asking you to pay million dollars, rather asking to keep your posts in control. As your blog getting bigger, you’re going to have more comments, discussion, forums, and even co-writer; they’re all in your responsibility. Every one word they write in your blog, is exactly going to apply as you write things on blog. Let’s say some random guy uploaded movie in your blog through comment, and cop found it. Believe it or not, YOU WILL BE ACCUSED AS WELL.

Online is not RPG game; cannot be restarted as well

Who would argue that being in online does make feel better than offline? After all, if you felt bad in online, nothing hard to stop it. Just turn the power off, and simply you won’t be disturbed by it directly. Although that’s only case when things got wrong because of THEM, NOT BECAUSE OF YOU.

Sadly enough, online is very sustained to offline. -Who would pay for the flows of 010101010101 for no reason?- If you got in trouble in online because of small act you have done in online, sadly enough, you’ll need to pay attention and apologize for it. Saying that online is only for enjoyment is just so immature; it seems stupid to deny the importance of online in these days.

I have met lots of people, asking for help, because of what happened in the online. Some of them were sued because of their harassment -not only sexual ones though-, some of them were accused for public instigation, etc, etc. You simply can shout in online “Britney Spears got pregnant!”, thinking it will never get attention, but by some “who would understand you truly”, also after police officer starts some interrogation, you probably start crying and say, “I never expected that happens…. it was joke.”

Flaw here you’re having is, that all of your tears will be considered as lie at that place, and since I am one of the cynical, I would say that YOU SUPPOSE TO BE IN CHARGE OF WHAT YOU SAID. Let’s do some analyzing from 3rd perspective. You’ll see what is the problem here.

• Person A(in this case, someone made rumor about Britney) posted rumor.
• Journalist B read the post and wrote his gossip for tonight.
• Famous Person C got in huge trouble.
• End up suing Person A.

Than, why Person A even posted it? -this is where it gets serious.

1. Wanted to get some attention, from random places.
2. Actually wanted to make some jokes, for little fun.
3. Although he never intended to make profit out if, his blog is filled with ads.
4. Somehow, Person A thought he never expected visitor, his blog doesn’t require log-in.

Do you see some problem here?

There is quite famous quote, quoting to everywhere, “the pen is stronger than the sword.”, there could be a lot of interpretation of the quote, but I explain it simply this way; once you write it down, it will never be gone from this world. This is not about “physical” things, because you wrote it, with big possibility you won’t forget about it, and the paper you wrote on can be kept for quite long period than you expect. Let’s don’t go so far with calculating how much influences it’s going to make, but just say “butter fly flaps its wing can bring storm in the other side of world.”

Internet has big potential of spreading informations. And of course, some of you who’ve been reading this might think “Ok, who would not know that?”. Well, then I will say something that will make you very interested on this issue. “So you knew that this rumor going to spread quite easier than offline?” Apparently by just saying that common sense, you just declared guilty to Person A.

Keeping information is important, but also impossible.

When I was in S. Korea, there was big case of sexual crime against kids, Pedophilia, and the reason the case got bigger wasn’t because how brutal crime was, but rather some random lady in the internet made fake spy report about the case; she claimed that she found the picture of criminal, and asked for help for young victim with high punishment on the criminal. Later on, police found out the images were fake, and the guy who smiled in the picture was just ordinary man loves to golf; he said he posted his picture in the golf community.

There were two big reason it got serious.

1. Blogger who made this fake report uploaded this to famous gossip aisle in big forum.
2. Though most people knew this is only fake-job,
3. No Feminist can be stopped. -just kidding-

About 30 ladies accused for defamation, all of them were around 20s to 30s, willing to help poor girl, although they never thought of the victim they victimized.

This is not only about “Is your post is reliable?”, but rather information flows really fast in internet. Expecting to keep information in safe in internet is virtually impossible. One mistake will make all thing uncovered, and you cannot be in charge of every information flowing one another.

This is your decision to make

Most people tend not to notice the importance of these, unless they are actually in trouble along with it, such as call from police for attending station for interrogation. After all, it is your right and responsibility to choose what stuff you want to post in your blog. No one would argue about that; you have freedom to make speech, but also have duty for it.

Remember, online is huge, fun place to share ideas, stories, informations, etc, but you should be in charge of things you wrote.

I am sure if this is first blog or website building experience for you, probably you’re overwhelmed by by two steps in a row. I understand, but this is not yet the time to open “Blog for dummies”. -I wonder is there book named like that from first place-

Do you remember the statistics class, or psychology class in high school year? Well, if you didn’t take neither of them, think about the US History class. Connection is, statistics and psychology both try to distort things in factors. For example, if variable X increases, Y decreases, Z will remain. US history, more typically, United States government function more similar to what we are going to do.

Why do we even need factors? (=variables)

I understand how frustrating to listen to this government politics lecture again, fortunately we’re not discussing about paying taxes here. Pretty opposite of it; we’re going to make money.

This is my philosophy, or rather rules while I am doing business-like work.

1. Be rational.
2. Be logical.
3. Look far as possible.
4. Seek for pure profit.
5. Make own theory on the field.
6. Be realistic.

I would like to introduce some of them later on the other lecturing. Anyway, important thing in here is number 5, make own theory on the field. Whether you believe it or not, at some point we need to keep our feet in short cut. Of course, we can hire some people up and try to not to fall in to that criteria, but be realistic -as number 6 says-. It is always nice to have some short cut for insurance.

What is “3 Factors”? and how does it work?

I did not mention yet about how things work in online with money. I had some experiences, trying my best to explain how marketing and those kind of things work in business to someone. Sadly I failed explaining it. Probably because either a. my explanation wasn’t good enough, or b. if you have no experience along with those, you won’t understand it.

Now we are thinking about making small business, and I hope you to prepare yourself. -If you already did, then you’re good to go-

As most economics follows to some rule to predict market movement, there are 3 factors which will allow you to keep your blog in status of “Popular” easily. Of course, in rational way of thinking, there isn’t just option to bring people in to random site. Why would you even go in to there from first place? Which means, there are things that literally drag people into your website or blog. And as it grows, your blog will also grow.

3 Factors are 3 causes make your revenue from blog to rise. Simple isn’t it? But as you might know, if you ever heard of “father, son, and holy spirit”, 3 doesn’t necessarily make things easier. Only explains.

First Factor we all start from: Information

Sorry to keep repeating myself. But information is really important. This is where everything begins. Think about any stores in the mall. Aren’t they selling stuffs with staff in there? Right. Whether you are window-shopping or not, staffs will explain any products you wish to know of, in general cases. -Don’t decry them by just saying “they kicked me out!” right now -

This works exactly in your blog, though applies more cruelly than offline. Because any readers can surf in without any pressure, your blog probably have more customer. But because they didn’t have any “pressure”, or rather “kind promotion”, unless your products are amazingly stimulating customers, they would just leave. Where it applies? Everywhere! Even you try to build your own online shoes store, this definitely going to apply.

I already mentioned this before, but I will explain again. Credibility of website comes from frequent and large posting. If you’re selling stuff, well apparently it still applies to you. Keep your self updating your blog. Only solution it is.

Let’s say you found what you desired for decades on Internet but resist buying it. Why would you? Make short of list why. Main reason why people resist buying on Ebay is exactly same. “How can I trust this seller?”. Well, then I will ask you this question. “How can I trust your blog?” It’s not just matter of whether you’re selling stuffs online or not. It’s matter of the “products” you’re going to put in your blog.

More technically, this is only way to attract people from Search Engine. (If you want further information about this, I will explain it once again, but you can look up at Step 2)

Second Factor that irritates many blogger: Traffic

Wow. Now it comes. -It already starts to make me irritating-. Do not think about rush hour with filled with traffic. This is VERY good for you. It is more like pathetic if you don’t have it. Do you know, that most of terms and words dealing with computer and Internet came from real world stuffs? Virus was from actual biological “virus”, bug was flying animals, mouse was… let’s just say food of cat at this moment.

If you’re following me, you probably understood what traffic is. Traffic is numbers how many visitors came to your blog. Term is made because in good old days, server could not hold up with large numbers of visitors so it slowed down or shut downed. -need help with technical words? it will be explained about the end of (Before Start) Chapter- So we called it traffic. Like how car does on freeway, “large traffic makes things slows”.

Let’s see the calendar. It’s 21st century, and server doesn’t break down any more, but rather our blog is newly about to setup. It means, we want traffic to come to our website; more visitors come, more profits are likely going to be made. After all, whether you want to make profit or not, make your blog popular(=traffic) doesn’t do any bad for you.

Third, the weirdest factor : Design

Please, don’t start to shout “Wait, do I need to make mine beautiful?!”. I never mentioned about it, although making it easier to read and access is basics of basics. Simple reason that I ask you to make your website ‘easier to read’ is, that making it easier to read is likely going to make comfortable environment for reader of your website or blog.

How do you think about the way of making money from nowhere? Does this make sense? Not really. I explained that our products are going to be your writings in your blog unless you actually sell something, but we all know unless there are magazine, tablos, or some sort, there won’t be payment reserved for you. But how does tablo make money? How magazines, newspapers, etc. make money from their published articles? Simple. The advertisement.

Whether you sell stuffs in your blog or not, putting the advertisement in your blog doesn’t really do any bad for you. With all honest, putting ads in your blog will make more traffic in simple way of thinking. More ads -> more info -> more search engine show up. But as we all know, ads are quite frustrating for readers if you put it wrong place. No help, but disturbing reading experience won’t do any good, but letting reader slip away from yours, putting your blog into “black-list”.

It applies dramatically when you have tremendous traffic, but it doesn’t make any profit to you. This is because ads are so avoidable, not-related to your post. -Who would even want to see the ad, when it has nothing to do with what s/he is reading?- Make sure, that you place your ad right place so that you can make actual ‘profit’.

Don’t play tricks with your reader

I believe, when I start to talk about this, most of readers of my own blog would like to say, “Are you completely mad?” Because there are 2 reasons, first, people who would seek for the way to make blog profitable is looking for side job -or source of money-, second, for certainty, large number of people seeking for “easy money” out of blog.

Thing is, if you ever tried to pirate some movies and musics, you will know it feels like when you have paid for something while all of your friends downloaded for free. Simply there is no reason for reader would divinely present you “click” in your website or blog, and read some articles with “accidental click” again on ads. -We would talk about how are you going to make money on the blog later on, but just keep in your mind-

If you ever seek profit out of blog, then you supposedly think that you’ll gladly pay some of your time in your own posting. There is no other way. Large quantities of information, frequent update, and reliable sources are three factors which make your blog more popular for “info-geek site”. People who would gladly come in to your blog, will never stay in your blog because you want money, but rather because of informations.

So…. What should I do with posting?

Nothing hard. Try your best to post about 1~2 post in a day. Which means, do not post too many in one time, but post continuously. There is no other jumping way solution for this. I recommend about 6 months of posting; how could you even trust random website where it doesn’t have any post from few days ago? More information is likely to lead to more frequent display in search engine.

What is Search Engine?

Well, if you ever “googled”, then you have used it at least once in your life. And the problem is, these engines are programmed to function in simple way; website with frequent and larger infos is highly reliable, while the others are not. Thus, if you want to have more people coming in to your website, you need to think carefully how are you going to post it.

Some tactics require for this. Let’s say you got burst somehow, and wrote 20 posts. -let’s assume they are all really long, very well written, full of infos with easy instruction- Post itself is A+, but if you upload them to your blog instantly, Google, even other search engine tends to think “Is this…. really reliable?” Because whether is it reliable or not, to them, some website just pop out of no where with many articles. Usually this result in distorted as spam website; no one will be able to enter your blog for certain period of time -they claim its about month, but in reality I saw many bloggers who got disconnected for eternity- Since you have lots of resources, there is simple way of solving problem. Post one by one, everyday. Your credit is going through the roof after few months.

This is where we should be very “Sensitive”

We all know what we did in vacation. We plan about our great summer, but in reality, get up at PM, and go back to bed at PM once again. Who says there is only winter sleep? Plans are just there, hanging next to year of MBP, rusting like house rule made thousands years ago. -I sometimes wonder who even started it anyway-

Planning blog is something different. Unless you’re just so nervous about the word “plan” itself, you suppose to have something in your mind what you want to do with your blog. Maybe that could be blog about your favorite baseball team, or informations of variety of colleges you gathered to send admission, or video games that you loved since you were born, or your great inventions, or your collections of stamps, it doesn’t matter.

Having a specified topic in your blog is something that gives your blog life.

You wouldn’t lose your life unless you made contract with Mrs. Goblin in school when you were child. -beside the fact we all do make some promise, Goblins usually forget- But blog, this is totally different case.

Ask yourself you would read “Gettysburg Address” for 100 times, and look for legally vulnerable, comprisable point, only because you’re boring. I’m sure everyone is gonna think either

• A. You’re totally out of your mind
• B. Start studying for lawyer, although you don’t even know what ‘law’ is.

It applies as exactly as to your blog. If your blog is totally pointless, even it does and if it is hard to find like “Old man and the sea”, no one is going to read your blog, but rather start to leave for New cool story like, in this case, “Twilight”, for example. Topic you’re going to choose should be spread out in your website, and give impression what your blog is about to reader.

Ok, I got the topic…. but is that it?

Of course it is not just it. As we learned in math class more than 2 years, we have to check our equations and answers. This is something very, VERY IMPORTANT. You have to be confident the informations you’ll post, and you should be able to post it constantly. More you are expert at it, more it’s likely to be better blog.

Now you’re giving me headache. Any other option?

Well, apparently, there is. There is no limitation in making your website from the first place. It means, your blog can be just sitcoms of your life story. Nothing special, but this is something people would like to see also, since most people look for cases they’re having in their life. Let’s say you had big argument with your girlfriend. And it you can’t even sure your relationship will last longer than an hour. You post it, and someone else who has same problem would see it. Basic function of how literature established in humanity.

Only reason that I am giving you all the examples are, because of the fact that you’ll need to be responsible for your own writing in the web. Without honesty and true knowledge about what you’re saying, one day maybe some random guy who was surfing in the internet just sue you, because he took it as harassment, or maybe because information you post wasn’t actually true but only urban legend. Reasons will vary, but the possibility will never change.

Either you become expert on your own, you will not be able to keep blogging.

So, I need to be expert only to not to get Sued?

Not exactly. As I always say, it’s not the only reason here. If you have special information that only you have, why wouldn’t people just get in to your blog for that? This is easiest way to make blog popular in short period of time.

모든 iPod 인코딩 강의를 시작하기 전에 항상 이런 워밍업을 준비하는데, 사실 얼마나 많은 반대(?)를 겪었는지 모릅니다. 그도 그럴것이, 실제로 인코딩을 하려고 하는 분들에게 있어서(아니 정확하게는 독자에게 일지도 모르겠습니다) 몇페이지나 되는 작가의 말이 얼마나 민폐인지에 대해서 논리정연하게 설명하다 보면 저도 모르게 동감하게 됩니다.

그런데도 불구하고 iPod Encoding에는 항상 이런 시작을 하는 이유는 간단합니다. 실제로 Encoding이라고 불리우는 작업에 대해서 잘 모르시는채로 무작정 따라하시게 되면 iPod 기종이 바뀔때마다, 다른 이유로 인코딩을 하게 되거나 에러가 발생했을때에, 실제로 기본적인 원리만 알고 있다면 수정가능한 부분을 매번 질문하시는 경우가 있다는 점입니다. 특히 이 문제로 여러번의 메일이 오가기 시작하면 상당히 난감한 것이, 알고보니 컴퓨터에 문제가 있다는 다른 문제가 발견됬을 경우에 제 입장에서는 딱히 ‘컴퓨터에 문제가 있는듯 합니다’라고 권하기 어렵다는 점입니다. 그러면 무턱대고서라도 잘 알지도 못하는 주제에 라고 반응하시는 분들이 많습니다. 그런데 아무리 봐도 컴퓨터 문제인 경우에는 저도 어쩔 수 없이 포기할 수 밖에 없습니다. (후에 이 인코딩 방식으로 인코딩했더니 컴퓨터가 망가졌다는 리뷰를 본 적도 있을 정도니까요)

다시 Encoding 이야기로 돌아가서, 인코딩이라는 과정은 단순히 이걸 말합니다. ‘동영상을 변환하는 작업’ 여기서 사용된 변환이라는 단어는 흔히 영화상에서의 변환을 의미하는 것이 아니니 겁먹지 않아도 됩니다. 여기서 말하는 동영상의 변환은, 단순히 표현방식의 변환을 의미합니다. 약간의 예를 들자면, 철수가 오후 3시 3분 3초에 춤을 추기 시작해 1분후에 춤이 끝났다고 합시다. 그 경우, 철수의 가족들은 철수의 동작동작 하나하나를 카메라로 찍어 보관할 지도 모르지만, 철수의 코치나 선생님은 철수의 춤을 동작만 기록해두었을지도 모릅니다. 심지어 얼굴도 없는 목각인형들의 포즈그림의 집합일지도 모르죠. 하지만 이 둘 다 결국 철수가 몇시 몇분 몇초에 얼마간 춤을 춘 것인지에 대한 기록입니다. 동영상은 기본적으로 연속된 사진의 집합체 입니다. 여러장의 사진을 빠른 속도로 돌리면 움직이는 것처럼 보이는 것을 이용한 것으로, 결국 1초간 수십장의 사진을 빠른 속도로 바꾸는 것에 불과합니다. 하지만, 문제는 이렇게 하게 될 경우에 그 사진들 하나하나를 다 보관할 필요성이 있습니다. 예를 들어서 아까의 철수의 경우를 보면, 철수 아버지가 초고속카메라로 철수의 춤을 찍는다면 기껏 1분에 지나지 않는 춤인데 몇만장의 사진이 나오게 될지도 모릅니다. 그에 비해서 철수의 선생님은 아무리 두꺼워야 책 한권 분량의 포즈들과 책 표지에 마커로 ’3시 3분 3초에 1분간 철수가 춘 춤’ 이라는 기록만 해두면 되죠. 같은 영상인데도 이렇게나 분량에 차이가 있을 수 있다는 겁니다. 이 문제를 직면한 많은 사람들은 이를 해결하기 위한 방법 중 하나로 사진을 겹치기 시작합니다. 철수가 같은 동작을 했다면, 그 동장에 한해서는 기록을 다시 하지 않는 거죠. 예를 들어, 왼팔이 올라간채로 오른팔만 올라갔다 내려갔다 하는 동작이라면 단순히 ‘왼팔 고정’이라는 말 하나로만 기록하는 식인거죠. 이 경우는 MP4라고 불리우는 영상 종류(또는 영상포맷이라고 합니다)에서 사용되는데, 색상의 변동이 없는 부분은 이를 얼마간 변동이 없다는 식으로 일종의 압축을 하여 영상의 용량(크기)를 줄입니다. Note : 더 자세한 동영상의 특성과 포맷 종류, iPod에서 요구하는 포맷과 설정에 대한 설명은 후에 하겠습니다. iPod이 아무리 좋다고 하더라도, 결국 전 세계에 있는 모든 동영상 포맷을 돌릴 수도 없거니와 동시에 그렇게 하면 용량문제를 심하게 직면합니다. 일단 iPod의 액정크기가 그리 크지 않기 때문에, 동시에 그렇게까지 질 좋은 영상을 아무렇지도 않게 돌릴 이유가 없는 것이죠. (물론 TV-OUT기능을 이용하여 TV로 시청한다면 이야기가 다릅니다) iPod이 지원하는 포맷과 동영상에는 한계가 있고 이를 위해서 iPod에서 시청하는 영상은 인코딩, 즉 변환을 거쳐서 iPod에 들어가게 됩니다. Note : iPod 용 영상으로 인코딩 되었다고 하더라도 여전히 컴퓨터에서도 볼 수 있습니다. 결론적으로 말하면, 인코딩이라는 작업은 단순히 ‘컴퓨터로 밖에 할 수 없는 어려운 무언가’가 아닙니다. 단지 컴퓨터가 아니면 사람 손으로는 하기 귀찮은 작업에 지나지 않고(사진을 일일히 어떤걸 빼고 어떤걸 넣으면 될지 곰곰히 생각해야 한다면 아무래도 끔찍하죠), 그리고 마찬가지로 컴퓨터로 이 작업을 하는 것도 그리 어렵지 않지만 동시에 이것이 상당히 ‘짜증나는(또는 골치아플 정도로 많은)’ 일이기 때문에 시간이 많이 걸리게 됩니다. (물론 이는 컴퓨터 성능에 따라 다릅니다)
